Data Migration - Translation is a normal process for big OEM's but also small/medium companies are getting involved in this kind of process usually, when they pass from one CAx platform to another or simply when they must use data from another CAx software in their project.

• Complexity of parts to migrate (the migration can be automated via a professional translating software or manual, because of the bad quality of the conversion results)
• The need of a Geometry Healing process (repair of complex surfaces)
• Comparing tools of original and migrated geometry (mass, center of gravity etc. very important parameters for down-stream processes)
• 2D & 3D Geometry Viewing Tools for visually compare the original and the migrated geometry, also important when the conversion is done from 2D to 3D without viewing the 2D is not possible to build the 3D model;
• Design Review & Mark-up Tools for keeping track of mistakes in conversion and easy to share information
• Design Standards Management Tools (Q-Checker) for imposing some standard geometry parameters necessary for down-stream applications (stress analysis, manufacturing etc.)

GURUCAD has extensive knowledge in data migration processes being involved in one of the biggest data migration project for Airbus - Migration of A330/340 aircraft's from 2D CCD drawings to Catia V5 models.

Other projects where we get in touch with data migration are: migrating complex parts (Aerospace systems and panels - air conditioning pipes, linings, side walls panels etc.) from CADSS5 to Catia V5 and using Healing Assistant to repair surfaces; customisation of a medical device in Catia V5, that didn't had any 3D data, only scan drawings (.tiff's and .jpg's); translation of Catia V4 models in Catia V5 models in batch mode; working with I-Deas files in Catia V5; translating Catia V5 files in Pro/Engineer formats; preparing methods for migrating data from Autocad to SolidWorks etc.

When the amount of data is very big, usually we recommend a professional translating software. Unfortunately, are situations when this software are not able to solve the data migration problems and the only way is manual.
